    ABOUT PATTERN LABO.

    Profile

PATTERN LABO. is a pattern-making company based in Kojima, Kurashiki.

Alongside daily contract work as freelance patternmakers, we pursue making that connects past to present — through three pillars: Fuku wo Horu, a vintage research project; FUKUBORI, our own apparel brand; and the craft of pattern-making itself.

To bring light to the profession of the patternmaker. From Kojima, to the world. That is our mission.

    Shinsuke Kawahara
    Founder & CEO

Working as a patternmaker in a contract manufacturing capacity, he launched Fuku wo Horu — a vintage deconstruction research project — in 2016.

The process of taking garments apart became an exhibition. A way of sharing the work, and opening a dialogue between past and present through clothing.

In 2024, the company was renamed PATTERN LABO. Inc. — marking a renewed commitment to examining what lies beneath the surface of how clothes are made.
