GERMANY LEATHER Flight Jacket
Regular price$2,105.00 Sale priceA flight jacket issued to the West German Air Force (Bundeswehr Luftwaffe) in the 1970s — disassembled and reconstructed through the lens of FUKUBORI.
The original was designed for extreme environments: the battlefield, the cockpit. Every material, construction detail, and silhouette was chosen for function alone. No ornamentation. A shape that emerged from the accumulation of only what was necessary. In that, the rationalist thinking characteristic of German design speaks clearly.
FUKUBORI respects that design philosophy. No deliberate decoration, no exaggeration. Rather than changing the form, we read why that form was arrived at — and brought it into the present with the minimum of editing.
In place of the goat leather used in the original, we chose kip leather. The chrome tanning process produces a faint blue-grey cast that cannot be aimed for — an element of chance that ends up defining the jacket's entire presence.
Under the arms, slash openings provide mobility and ventilation. Each end is finished with hand-sewn bar tacks — an unassuming detail, but one that speaks directly to how this garment was born from function.
FUKUBORI is not a brand that designs clothing. It is a practice of editing, carrying forward, and choosing the best solution for a given time and environment. The Bundeswehr flight jacket — a form driven to its logical conclusion by pure rationality — was a natural subject for that approach.
Sizing
The pattern has been reconstructed from the original's proportions, rebalanced for contemporary builds and how the jacket is worn today. The fit allows for layering underneath.
As this product uses natural leather, individual variation in texture and colour is expected. Minor individual variation in measurements may occur.
